The staff in traditional dress were so courteous and polite and helpful. This is a world class hotel at reasonable prices.
The ANA is a bit away from the main Kyoto station but they had a hotel bus to pick us up and drop us at the train station.
The hotel is situated right across a main road from Nijo castle (Nijo-Jo) which is a must see for any visitor. It is also a 15-20 minute walk/short tube ride from main cluster of shrines/temples and the Gion area of Kyoto. As Kyoto is a reasonably small city, there are many quaint little shops (one just near the main entrance run by a lovely old man sells mainly cat related ornaments and fabrics all hand made locally, and he even has a geriatric 19 year old cat in the shop) and reataurants right on the door step, weather you be looking for a fast food type noodle bar or a more classy establishment. The rooms are cleaned to a Japanese standard which is quite high and there is a free shuttle service to and from the main Kyoto station, which connects to local JR services, Shinkansen and the Kytoto subway.
The hotel seems to be frequented mainly be Japanese businessmen entertaining clients, coach parties of middle age Japanese people and special functions such as weddings. All of which give the hotel an overly stuffy atmosphere. Any extras, such as minibar, in house restaurants, breakfast, right down to what should be complimentary coffee in the room is charged at a huge premium, which is obviously no good for thrifty traveller such as myself. The toilet in our room did have a bit of a 'well lived in smell' which is frankly astonishing based on the other places we stayed, and Japan in general.
Location is good. You are right opposite Nijo Castle which has lovely grounds as well if you want to walk around. You could get an all day bus ticket and on the far side of the street you can get a number 12 bus to The Golden Temple. Underground station is just a short walk away and there is a nice light bakery and coffee shop on the way.
we got a smart deal but the hotel is still expensive and the rooms are a little tatty. This is to be expected in Japan.
Excellent service and great location, across the street from a castle and give you a map explaining the bus and train routes to get to anything you need. About 5 restaurants in the building which helped when we didn't know many local spots to go with. Also shuttle to and from the train station every 15 minutes.
If I had to have a negative it would be the buildings age. You can tell right away by the carpets its been around for awhile, however this is reflected in its lower cost compared to other high class hotels in the area.
Beautiful entrance, nice waterfall in the hotel and garden, wonderful looking of staff in japanese kimono, free shuttle bus, machine with cold and hot drinks at the hotel
-Staff dont speak english -broken air condition in the room -very expensive breakfast -nth complimentary in the room-no water, tea or coffee -dirty bathroom
Very elegant entrance to the hotel, all staff in the reception wear traditional kimono and they look very nice.Every 20 minutes is free shuttle bus from railway station in Kioto to the hotel and opposite, at the railway station bus stop is located in front of MCDonald.
First of all almost all staff of the hotel dont speak english or any othe language except japanese..., So is very difficult to communicate with them. Very expensive breakfast -almost 30 euro per person, room very old, furnishure old and used, horrible kettle in the room.
The rooms are spotless and quiet. The staff is outstanding, and the cafe has excellent food. There are more restaurants that are higher priced which we did not try, as we were happy with the cafe. The ambience is wonderful, especially with the unusual waterfall that commands the attention of everyone in the lobby.
Loved everything about it and would definitely stay there again.
Top class hotel with really big room (for Japan) for a great price. Roof beer garden open in the summer. Complimentary bus to train station. Right beside castle. Excellent, professional staff - lovely to see the female staff wearing traditional kimonos.
Wifi only in lobby, not rooms.garden ever garden not exactly classy with white plastic chairs and tables but nice enough. Location not close to the historic districts in east Kyoto but having said that there is a subway station nearby and public transport is good.
Great location, room size quite good.
The price for using the pool and gym which was £30 for 2 people for each visit,
The Staff is amazing, so friendsly and so helpful and do their best to help the rooms are wide and very comfortable the breakfast and dinner and wonderful near by many facilities shuttle bus to train station all the time, make it as if it is in central Kyoto, but is it 10 min. away
more variety of TV channels
Good location and easy access from subway and bus which is our major transportation vehicle.
freindly staffs at reception except the restaurant
not guest friendly because no priority for dining guest.
Not much. It was sufficiently extensive to have my expectations raised and it did not meet them. It has an excellent location and the shuttle to the train station is nice touch unless you want to leave early in the morning. The staff is friendly and trying hard to be helpful but difficult when they speak barely anything but their mother tongue. .
I primarily chose the hotel among others for having a health club. Alas it is not open in the morning when it is most useful to me.It likely caters to elder business men who like to relax after work. The fact that it costs about usd 18 a day just adds to the insult. I suggest to tone down their featuring the fitness facilities. Another point is about heating in the rooms. The poor circulation means your head is frying but toes are freezing. I would not stay there again.
Fellow users of the hotel and the staff were always friendly and happy to help.
convenient (bus to station/city) and well appointed
we liked it all
